This was something very different, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Continue reading to learn my findings.

Taste: 8.0/10  – While the broth itself has plenty of deep, tomato flavor, even better, there’s no shortage of pasta. The pasta itself isn’t your traditional spaghetti product;  it’s more like broken up vermicelli, or more accurately – tiny little squares of pasta.

Texture: 8.0/10 – The texture of this product is easily broken down into two things; the consistency of the broth and the pasta’s bite. When properly cooked, the pasta is good, to the tooth, or Al Dente, if you will, and the broth leaves little to be desired.

Nutrition: 7.0/10 – There’s no outstanding health benefits tied in with this product, but it’s not unhealthy either.  It’s worth noting the product contains an abundance of carbohydrates, so this is a good energy food.

Filling Factor: 9.5/10 – My rationale for the high marks are for a sole and simple reason – a large serving is provided with each pouch; in addition, the pasta adds a good amount of bulk to the dish. Having filling dishes like this on hand are of obvious benefit; not only do they leave you feeling full, they also reduce the strain on your food reserves.

Stealth/OpSec: 8.2/10 – Unfortunately, this product produces a particularly rich scent. Given what you just read, you’re probably wondering why I’ve scored it an 8.2. To clarify, the cooking time for this is fairly scant, so any associated risk factors such as aroma, steam, flame and whatnot are minimized and short-lived.

Shelf Life: 9.0/10 – So long as the product is kept in its original and sealed pail, it’s extremely resilient, even in sub-optimal temperatures and conditions. When properly stored, I see no reason this product wouldn’t last 20+ years as the label indicates.

It all begins as a humble powder and pasta mixture.

Final Score: 8.4/10 – This is a very all-around solid emergency food. I see no qualms with making this part of your preps. While this wasn’t my favorite packaged meal, I gave it an 8.0 in taste because it’s culinary appealing, and as such – I could easily see someone enjoying this as a frugal meal.

It's nice and red...
